was developed
by Arthur Pauls, a British osteopath and Judo instructor.
The goal of the technique is to help the client find
their position of most comfort. By locating and supporting
this position, Dr. Pauls found the body will self correct
and release pain patterns. Slight compression into joints,
supporting muscles in the preferred contraction or stretch,
or working with gentle resistance in a movement may
all be employed during a session.
Ortho-Bionomy® will give you the ability to focus on areas
of tension, pain patterns, or where you feel as though you are spiraling
out of control. You will learn how to allow those same patterns
to loosen, unwind and release. Techniques vary from subtle to very
interactive, but are always applied within your level of comfort.
The techniques can be done in a variety of settings - in a chair,
lying on a massage table or floor, or walking around
the room. Generally performed through clothing, without
oils or lotions, the client may be asked to remove their
shoes, though I do incorporate the technique into an
oil massage if you prefer.
One concept of Ortho-Bionomy is to exaggerate the pattern
held in the body. By exaggerating a movement, the innate
wisdom of the body is allowed to self correct. Pain
points may also be addressed. Once a pain or tender
point is identified, release positions are held from
10-30 seconds with a slight compression toward a corresponding
joint.
Self care exercises help reinforce the session and further enable
you to stay "in comfort."
Experience it for yourself!
I have completed the 1,000+ hours required in Ortho-Bionomy®
to be an Advanced Practitioner. I am an Associate Instructor
in the Instructor Training Program and currently hold
study groups to help my clients and others learn how
to use this technique to help themselves. If you are
interested in attending an Ortho-Bionomy® study
group or a formal class with a current Ortho-Bionomy®
instructor please contact
me or check the Classes
page for upcoming seminars.
